Site Accreditation
The Council of the New Zealand College of Public Health Medicine has adopted an Accreditation of Advanced Training Sites policy which defines the standards and supports the provision of quality training environments in the NZCPHM Training Programme.
The College requires all Advanced training sites employing a Public Health Medicine (PHM) Registrar to be accredited. This is consistent with the Medical Council of New Zealand's expectation that all NZ medical colleges have a formal process in place to accredit the training sites used for the training of Registrars.
The term 'Advanced Training Sites' refers to nominated organisations or departments intending to provide workbased training of Public Health Medicine Registrars on one or multiple sites. These include, but are not limited to, Public Health Units of District Health Boards, Planning and Funding Units in District Health Boards, Primary Health Organisations, the Ministry of Health and non-government organisations.
Levels of Accreditation
There are three levels of Accreditation - Provisional, Full and Conditional.
Provisional Accreditation will be granted to current Advanced Training Sites at the implementation of this policy and new Advanced Training Sites if they meet all Standards. Provisionally Accredited Training Sites must apply to the College for Full Accreditation within 6 months. Provisional Accreditation is valid for 6 months.
Full Accreditation will be granted to Advanced Training Sites holding Provisional Accreditation that upon application can demonstrate they meet all specified Standards. Full accreditation will be for a term of 3 years.
Conditional Accreditation may be granted to a new Advanced Training Site if the site meets almost all of the Standards and is likely to meet all Standards within 6 months. If Standards are not met in the prescribed timeframe, Conditional Accreditation may be extended or withdrawn. Training Sites are able to re-apply if circumstances change and the Site subsequently able to meet the Standards.
