Public Health Physician /Medical Officer of Health

Public Health South wishes to appoint a Public Health Physician who is also able to be designated as a Medical Officer of Health.

This varied and challenging role will require you to work proactively with our public health team to ensure successful delivery of our outcomes focused programmes across the Southern DHB. You will join our three current specialists and work closely with the Ministry of Health, the media, other health professionals, local authorities and community health providers to provide leadership and guidance of public health matters for the Southern District.

The successful candidate will ideally be experienced in working in multi-disciplinary teams and have a detailed understanding of the NZ health system.  The ability to think strategically and translate strategic goals into operational plans along with proven presentation and communication skills are essential.

You can be based either in Dunedin or Invercargill City and occasional travel around Otago and Southland will be required. The on-call roster will be shared with the other specialists.

Specialist qualifications in public health medicine such as Fellowship with the RACP or NZ College of Public Health Medicine and eligibility for vocational registration with the NZ Medical Council are a requirement of the position.
